New Supt.

The USD 111 Doniphan West Board of Education is delighted to announce Heather Ball's appointment as our new full-time Superintendent. Mrs. Ball will take the reins on July 1, 2025, after Dr. Volora Hanzlicek retires at the end of the 2024-25 school year.

Heather Ball most recently served as an elementary principal, Title I and Title III Director, and Compliance Coordinator for Federal programs in USD 216 Deerfield, KS. She has also served as an Instructional Coach and New Teacher Mentor at USD 494 Syracuse, KS. Previously, she was a classroom teacher, special education teacher, and Title I Interventionist in the High Plains Education Co-op in Ulysses, KS, and Garden City, KS. 

Mrs. Ball is nearing completion of a doctorate degree in leadership at Baker University. She also has a Master of Science Degree in Special Education and a Bachelor of General Studies degree in Elementary Education from Fort Hays State University.

After an extensive and thorough search process, we are confident that Mrs. Ball is the right leader to guide our district into a bright and successful future.

Mrs. Ball brings enthusiasm, a deep commitment to student achievement, and valuable experience working in rural agricultural communities like ours. Her passion for education and dedication to fostering a supportive and thriving learning environment make her an excellent fit for our district.

In addition to her enthusiasm and experience, Mrs. Ball embodies key characteristics we identified as essential for our new superintendent. She has a strong track record of community involvement, ensuring that the voices of all stakeholders are heard and valued. Her exceptional communication skills will help build strong relationships and foster transparency within our district. Furthermore, Mrs. Ball is a passionate advocate for students and staff

In her letter to the West Doniphan community, Mrs. Ball says, “I am elated and honored to be selected as your next Superintendent of Schools. I am deeply committed to upholding your tradition of academic excellence and ensuring that every student is fully equipped to live the life that they desire.”

We were blessed to have three strong candidates who interviewed for this position, and we appreciate the community's engagement and passion. Feedback from community members, staff, and students directed our focus throughout this process.  We are confident that Mrs. Ball will work collaboratively with all stakeholders to build on our district's strengths and address our challenges.
